I treat every day like Monday. Yes, that's right! Why not! Hear me out ...
It’s a mindset that has completely transformed my workweek, allowing me to stay energized, motivated, and balanced throughout the week. By adopting this approach, I’ve found that I never crave the elusive “Friday 5 PM feeling” because my days are full of purpose and excitement, no matter what!
The key to this mindset is starting Monday with enthusiasm! I’m excited to see my teammates, collaborate with the leaders I work with, and bring positive energy to the week ahead. Mondays aren’t the beginning of a grind for me, but instead is a chance to reconnect with the people I spend most of my time with, which brings me genuine joy. The enthusiasm I carry into the start of the week sets the tone for the days that follow, ensuring I maintain that energy and positivity.
You might ask, "Why not treat Fridays the same way?" I get asked this all the time! Most people look forward to Fridays as a countdown to the weekend, a time to unwind with family and loved ones. While that’s important, I believe we shouldn’t have to wait for the weekend to enjoy life or feel relaxed.
Instead, I make it a priority to enjoy my work environment throughout the week. When we create a positive, engaging workplace, it contributes significantly to the mental well-being of everyone on the team. This kind of atmosphere doesn’t just make work enjoyable; it makes people look forward to their time in the office and re-connecting with each other. It really humanizes the work environment!
This approach isn’t about pretending everything is perfect or forcing an artificial sense of happiness. It’s about genuinely enjoying the time spent with colleagues, creating meaningful connections, and building a supportive work environment where we all thrive in.
These relationships are especially critical in today’s Return to Office (RTO) setups, where teams are transitioning back into shared spaces after periods of remote work. The Monday mindset helps ease that transition by fostering an environment where people feel happy and motivated to return, rather than seeing it as a burden.
But beyond Monday, I don’t treat Wednesdays as the “hump” or Fridays as the finish line either. Every day is an opportunity to contribute something meaningful, which is why I try to stay consistent in my enthusiasm throughout the week. If I’m not looking forward to a day at work, that’s a signal to reflect and ask myself bigger questions. Am I fulfilled by what I’m doing? Is there something I can change to make my workday more meaningful?
You don’t have to treat every day like a Monday, but it’s worth reflecting on how much you enjoy your work environment. Are you happy to see your team each day? Are you excited about the challenges ahead? If not, it might be time to reassess. The reality is that a supportive, energizing work environment can make all the difference between dreading the week and embracing it with open arms.
